HancockFellow Minnesotans:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,--"

This premise is the basis for our Constitutional Republic.  Lincoln recognized it eighty-seven years later in his Gettysburg Address, and we must recognize it again today.  Otherwise, our very existence as a nation is in question.  We cannot return to a simpler time, but we can return to the Constitutional principles that made this country great.  We the people must stand up and make our voices heard.  Just as we as individuals and families must shoulder the responsibilities involved in our freedoms, we must hold each level of government accountable.

The Federal Government must protect the social, political, and economic framework of this nation.  It should limit its powers to those enumerated in the U. S. Constitution, and not usurp the powers given to the States and the people.

As Minnesotans, we must put our own house in order.  We must change the way in which we conduct business. We must live within our means, and leave more money in the hands of those who have earned it.  We must reduce the cost of State Government and improve its delivery systems to be more efficient.

I believe in the power of the individual.  A government closest to the people is most responsive to the people.  I believe that you know how to best manage your money, your property and your child’s education, not some bureaucracy in St. Paul or Washington DC.

Finally, we as individuals must bear the responsibilities that come with our God given Rights.  As we exercise them, we must remember and respect from whence they came.

I look forward to meeting all of the great people in Hubbard, Clearwater, Beltrami, Polk, and Pennington counties, and listening to your concerns and ideas.  We need to begin to return Government to what it was intended to be; of the People, by the People, and for the People.
